Railroad is a "blast from the past". Visit a western town, hop aboard an
historic steam locomotive for a 3 mile trip around the mountain, pan for gold, enjoy
toe-tapping music and dancing, visit the animals in the petting zoo and take in the
beautiful mountain scenery.

Mountain is the highest peak in the Blue Ridge. Considered
the most biologically diverse mountain in eastern North America, Grandfather welcomes you
to explore this unique example of the endangered high-elevation spruce-fir ecosystem.

Caverns are located at the base of Humpback Mountain in Linville valley. After
remaining a mysterious secret for centuries, the caverns have been opened for safe and
convenient public touring.
- Linville Falls - Two
main hiking trails lead to beautiful views of the Linville Falls. Both begin at the
Linville Falls Visitor Center. The Linville Falls trails range in difficulty from moderate
to strenuous.
- Mountain View Riding Stables -
No mountain vacation is complete without a horseback ride. Mountain View Stables is
located just a few miles down the road from our cabin and offers the most trails in the
area for beginners and seasoned riders alike. You can contact them at 866-686-8724
- Golf
Courses - There are several golf courses in the area. The view of the Elk River golf
course from the top of Grandfather mountain is phenominal. I've always wanted to play that
course, but alas, it's private!
Snow Skiing
- www.skibeech.com - Ski Beech is
the highest ski resort in Eastern North America, at 5506 ft. above sea level.
 With 15 slopes and 10 lifts, Ski Beech has terrain for the beginner
all the way to the seasoned expert. There is also tons of fun for non-skiers, with the
picturesque ice skating rink and snow tubing.

We rate this one a "MUST VISIT"! The kids will love the old fashioned barrels of
candy. Although the store location in downtown Boone is the closest, it's also fun to go
to the original store in Valle Crucis. Their web site doesn't do it justice. They also
have traditional mercantile goods, comfortable clothing, rugged footwear and quality
outdoor gear for all mountain seasons.
- Blowing Rock - Downtown Blowing Rock is probably the best shopping district in
the area. This is an excellent day tour. The town itself is a quaint cultural / arts &
crafts environment. Use this current calendar of events links to get more information on what's
happening in Blowing Rock during your stay. Stores and restaruants are open all year with
most open 7 days a week. And by the way, don't forget to stop by the candle maker. The
kids love to watch him craft his gifts. It's in the building with the bubbles coming out
across from the fudge/ice cream store!
- Tanger Outlet Shopes - The
largest outlet plaza in the area. See this link for Outlet Shoppe
